Pilot Study
The project aims to test and adapt the techniques of producing
manuals for non-literate user groups to suit the requirements
of organisations in developing countries.
The work is co-funded by the European Commission DG VIII and
the UK government Department for International Development (DFID).
It is largely concerned with training, identifying the simplest
and most effective methods of using the techniques, and promoting
the results so that organisations in other counties have access
to techniques and manuals.
By the end of 2001 the project should have achieved the following:
- NGOs and government staff in The Gambia and Ghana with the
ability to produce agroforestry training manuals for non-literate
farmers
- A small manual or leaflet produced by each participating organisation
in The Gambia and Ghana using the techniques developed by the
project (according to their training agendas and farmers expressed
interests). (African Manuals)
- A revised edition of the women's agroforestry manual produced
during the research to take account of the results of the 1997
field testing and pilot study.
- A Web Site to include information on the project, women's
agroforestry manual, techniques for developing manuals, and
new manuals produced by the African partners
- Presentations and publications to promote the project and
the techniques
- An Information Pack including: a copy of the women's agroforestry
manual; booklets on how to develop simple illustrated manuals
using the project techniques; and a CD of the women's agroforestry
manual and African manuals.
